Also unfortunately restrained are the disc's bass frequencies, which rarely reach commanding levels. The soundtrack, which typically plays a vital role in action films, was unfortunately restrained. Furthermore, the film's score is also surprisingly subdued. In scenes of high action, the dialogue is obviously from a studio voice over source, and poorly so. Most of the time, viewers will notice how overproduced and unnatural the audio is for the film especially the dialogue. Score: 5 out of 10 Languages and Audio The audio of The Art of War II is comparable to its video encode-lacking. We had a hard time finding one commendable characteristic throughout the feature-length of the film. Overall, the video transfer is lackluster in almost every category. Grain and compression artifacts are prominent throughout and black levels are extremely washed out. Even televisions with commendable upscaling and filtering will have a hard time cleaning this disc up.

The film's source, which is a very crudely shot feature with out of focus shots and rough transitions, makes the disc's lacking transfer even harder to swallow. As a direct-to-DVD release, The Art of War II hardly receives the kind of polish that other releases usually get. Score: 4 out of 10 Video and Presentation The standard definition DVD edition of The Art of War II leaves much to be desired-the colors are drab and boring, with significantly high contrast, and compression imperfections are frequent. But that just goes to show how particularly bad this film would have to be to not even strike our fancy. In the end, it's not that we aren't accustomed to mindless action flicks, we are. With loosely interdependent themes and plot variations it is awfully difficult to distinguish what exactly is happening at any one time. To make matters worse, the film's story is practically incoherent.

Ultimately, the lacking plot and performances reduces the film to a series of fight sequences, which are notable but certainly not worth sitting through the hour and forty minutes of insufferable writing. But in any case, the film trudges on, for better or for worse, with action sequences aplenty. Every syllable that Snipes utters seems obligatory and completely without interest, almost as if he can sense how nonsensical this film is. Snipes has a hard time walking the delicate line between a calm, cool, and collected and simply boring. As if the premise wasn't laughable enough, Snipes' acting only makes matters worse. But soon, Shaw is called out of retirement in order to solve the case of his former judo instructor and mentor's murder. Wesley Snipes is back, reprising his role as Neil Shaw, but now, out of the espionage game, Shaw has a daytime job as a Hollywood consultant. However, nearly eight years later, the story has been picked up for one last attempt at profits with the direct-to-DVD release of The Art of War II: Betrayal.

Any reasonably educated movie buff would naturally assume that the series ended on a perfect note-vindication.

Shaw must combat gangsters and members of the FBI to uncover the true assassin and clear his name, and as you may have guessed, he succeeds. After an assassination of a high-profile diplomat, Shaw is framed for murder and embarks on a high-octane journey to find out the truth. In August of 2000, The Art of War established the main protagonist of the series, Neil Shaw, as a covert operative for the United Nations.
